Judge Chris Cannon brings more than two decades of real-world experience in law enforcement, the courtroom, and public service to the bench. Appointed as Municipal Court Judge for the City of North Las Vegas, Judge Cannon has dedicated his career to upholding the law with fairness, integrity, and respect for the community he serves.

Before joining the bench, Judge Cannon served the people of North Las Vegas for over 25 years as a police officer, rising through the ranks to Police Lieutenant. During his tenure with the North Las Vegas Police Department, he handled everything from patrol operations and criminal investigations to community engagement and officer training. His law-enforcement career included leadership roles such as Field Training Officer, Traffic Lieutenant, Police Academy Instructor, and Honor Guard Commander, earning multiple commendations including Lifesaving, Meritorious Service, and Community Service Awards.

Judge Cannon’s legal career is equally extensive. After earning his Juris Doctor from UNLV’s Boyd School of Law, he practiced law for more than 15 years as a partner and attorney, representing clients in criminal defense, family law, and appellate matters in municipal, justice, district, and supreme courts. He also served as General Counsel to the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers, advising law-enforcement professionals across the state on labor, administrative, and legal matters.

On the bench, Judge Cannon presides over criminal hearings, arraignments, motion calendars, trials, and bail determinations. He also plays an active role in CARE Court, Veterans Court, and Drug Court, reflecting his belief that accountability and rehabilitation can—and should—work together when appropriate.

Beyond the courtroom, Judge Cannon has a long history of community and professional service. He has served on the Nevada Judicial Ethics Committee, participated as a foreclosure and eviction mediator, volunteered extensively with Legal Aid organizations, and was recognized as Pro Bono Attorney of the Year for his commitment to access to justice.

Judge Cannon is admitted to practice before the Nevada Supreme Court, Federal District Court, and the United States Supreme Court. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology, a background that informs his thoughtful, measured approach to decision-making.

Above all, Judge Chris Cannon believes the courtroom should be a place where the law is applied fairly, consistently, and transparently—while maintaining respect for every individual who appears before the court.
